The Archer Academy and Finchley Foodbank raising funds and awareness

We were very happy to welcome teachers and students from the Archer Academy to the Finchley Foodbank last Friday, when they visited to drop off items for our clients.

The school recently ran a ‘Winter Collection’ asking students, parents and teachers to donate items for people in need in Barnet, including hot water bottles, scarves and gloves for adults and children. The school also collected advent calendars and chocolate coins to give to children. This follows their ‘Harvest Collection’ in October when the Archer Academy donated a wide range of essential food items.

FFB has an ongoing relationship with the Archer Academy who support our work over the year through fundraising efforts and food collections.

In addition, the partnership with students raises awareness of food poverty in the borough. Starting in January next year, Year 8 students from the Archer Academy will start to visit FFB for an hour a week to learn about what we do, and help with tasks such as boxing eggs. We will also be offering the opportunity for Archer families to attend our Monday night restocking sessions.

We want to express our huge thanks to the Archer Academy, and in particular to Head of Year 8 and Teacher of PE, Jamie McSherry, who has built the relationship with FFB and leads the student visits. We are very grateful to him and the pupils and look forward to welcoming them to the foodbank again in 2026.
