Whenever six-year-old Rayyan Ahmed went shopping in Sainsbury’s in the High Road, N2, with his mum, he pointed to the Finchley Foodbank donation point and wanted to know why people were dropping items in the container rather than taking them home with the rest of their shopping.

Finchley Foodbank Manager moves on after 10 years

After 10 years at the heart of Finchley Foodbank, manager Anna Maughan has announced she is leaving her role and applications are invited for the position. However, she is continuing as a volunteer and will serve on the management group when she leaves to work at a local school.

Until recently, long lines of people waiting to be given items to help them make ends meet could be seen queuing out-side the church where they were easily visible to pedestrians and drivers on the High Road. But under the new system clients are offered a time slot, allowing them to walk straight inside. “Nobody should have to queue for food from a food-bank,” says Finchley Foodbank co-ordinator Anna Maughan.
